Dampout waterproofing is a professional damp and waterproofing company established in 1977. We specialize in domestic rising and lateral damp and waterproofing solutions using British accredited chemical system injection to halt rising damp in Johannesburg, Gauteng. DAMP PROOFING

Dampout specializes in rising damp where we use chemical injection to replace old perished malthoid damp proof courses, Lateral damp in exposed outer wall plinths between foundation and floor level.

WATERPROOFING

Dampout treats flat, pitched, iron and tiled roofs using acrylic membrane systems. We also waterproof balconies by removing tiles, waterproofing, re-screeding to fall and re-tiling.

LAND DRAINAGE

Trenching and Aquadrain installation is done to bleed off standing (ponding) areas due to high water tables and marshlands.

    LATERAL DAMP

    The best way to describe lateral damp is horizontal water penetration. For example, if any part of your home’s building structure sits at the same level as the ground soil outside, water from the soil can horizontally penetrate through the external walls and enter the internal walls, flooring, and ceilings. That is why basements, cellars, and underground rooms often suffer lateral damp problems because they regularly bear the pressure and impact of water-saturated soil.  

     A home’s foundation is susceptible to lateral damp, even if the entire built structure sits above the soil. Since the foundation lies in the ground, you can always expect it to be vulnerable to lateral damp unless you take the proper precautions. If you do not resolve or prevent lateral damp quickly enough, it will eventually deteriorate the foundation and erode the entire internal structure of your home.

    Soil consistently presses against a home’s foundation or structure. When too much water accumulates in the ground soil outside, it will find a way into your home if the building materials have too many cracks, pores, holes, gaps, and openings. The only way to stop this from happening is to reduce the water buildup in the soil and seal the external building materials to cover up the exposed openings. 

    RISING DAMP

    Rising damp is vertical water penetration in a home. Instead of water horizontally entering through the porous materials of your home, it vertically enters the internal structure from the ground below it. All the tiny pores and holes in the foundation, walls, and flooring can contribute to a rising damp problem because they provide an entryway into your home for groundwater and moisture. Capillary action is the best way to describe the process of damp rising from groundwater into a home’s porous structural materials. 

    It is a scientific term referring to the natural way in which liquid flows through narrow spaces without the force of gravity stopping it. When groundwater makes contact with the pores (or capillaries) of your home’s building materials, the water defies gravity by binding itself to them. So, if lots of pores exist throughout your home’s building materials and structure, the dampness will continue to flow upwards and inflict substantial damage to them. For example, common home construction materials like mortar, stone, and brick have thousands of microscopic pores or holes inside of them. Because of this, groundwater rises through the capillary action and infiltrates these pores to create dampness in the walls and floors of your home.

     

    RISK FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH RISING DAMP INCLUDE:

    ·         No previous damp proofing treatment was applied to the home

    ·         Poor drainage outside the home (e.g. blocked gutters)

    ·         Excessive humidity from plumbing issues, water leaks, wet weather conditions, etc.

    In many cases, the signs of rising damp can be seen on the internal walls first, while the signs of lateral damp often appear on the external walls first. If these damp problems are left untreated for too long, they will penetrate through all the external and internal walls and cause severe structural damage in the home.
